New Home Improvement Group has donated the presentation of Oxford United’s Player of the Month to people who make a difference in the community.
The Wallingford-based independent home improvement company has sponsored the club’s player of the month this season with company representatives presenting the award on the pitch. The award is given the player who attracts the most votes by fans via on online poll.
However, as part of the company’s community values it has generously donated the monthly presentation to the club’s charity to select well-deserving people to make the presentation and meet their heroes.
The team at Oxford United in the Community select a person within the county who deserves the honour – to thank them for making a difference via the charity’s activities.
Oxford United in the Community volunteer Finley presented the February player of the month award to Josh Murphy on the pitch before United’s home match against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
It was well deserved recognition for his voluntary work alongside his dad Kevin in helping to deliver the charity’s mascot tours at United home matches at the Kassam Stadium. Finley isn’t the only person to have the opportunity of being pitch side to present the award this year, with players from Oxford United in the Community’s disability football squad also handing over a trophy earlier this season.
Matt Everett, CEO of Oxford United in the Community, said: “This is a wonderful gesture by the New Home Improvement Group and on behalf of everyone at the charity I extend a big thank you for the support.
“It is a fantastic way to reward, thank and inspire some of the excellent people who help the charity make an impact in our community.
“Congratulations to Finley on making the most recent presentation, we see first hand his confidence in volunteering on a matchday and it was lovely to see him on the pitch and make the presentation to Josh.”
Darren Field, founder of the New Home Improvement Group, said: “We’re proud to have opened this up to the community, as part of our values in supporting people in the area. The club’s charity is making such a positive impact in the community and this is a nice way to celebrate and reward some of the great people making make that difference.”
