Tommy White named as Community Captain for Premier League More Than A Game initiative

Oxford United in the Community has named Tommy White as their Premier League Community Captain in recognition of their commitment and contribution to the game and society.
The Premier League and clubs are celebrating ‘More Than A Game’ and highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.
The Premier League is investing £1.6 billion into wider football and communities between 2022 and 2025 to support football at every level of the game across England and Wales. This world-leading funding into clubs, communities and facilities positively impacts and inspires millions of people.
As part of ‘More Than A Game’, the League will be celebrating more than 100 Community Captains – individuals nominated by Premier League, EFL and National League clubs for their contribution to their local community via programmes funded by the Premier League.
Tommy White has been chosen as Oxford United in the Community’s 2025 Community Captain for their incredible commitment to their community and for volunteering and coaching on Premier League Kicks. Oxford United first team players Przemyslaw Placheta and Marselino Ferdinan presented Tommy with the award at a Premier League Kicks session in Didcot.
On receiving the award, Tommy said: “Its a huge honour to be acknowledged in this way and it is one that is not just mine, but belongs to every single person at the club that has supported and mentored me, every young person that comes along to Kicks and all the other individuals that help work in the Community and help to make Kicks possible. I have met some fantastic inspirational young people that are overcoming many different barriers and it’s a privilege to be able to work with them and them see football is more than just a game”
Oxford United in the Community are proud to celebrate the achievements of our chosen Premier League Community Captain, Tommy recognising the instrumental role they played in Premier League Kicks
Mark Thomas, Social Inclusion Lead said: “I think Tommy’s desire once he saw the programme on work experience to give up every Friday evening to spend time with the young people shows the impact this programme has and how much he gets from it.
Tommy is great for our Banbury participants as he shows them that young people like them from their town can achieve and do great things. His success and commitment is massively inspiring to Oxford United in the Community but more so to the young people. They are drawn to Tommy and inspired by him.
Hopefully this will make them follow in his footsteps to be the inspiration to the younger group of participants we work with.”
Premier League Director of Community Nick Perchard said: “It is so important that we continue to recognise and collectively highlight the positive impact that work within local communities has, championing those at the heart of Premier League-funded initiatives. Success on the pitch enables the Premier League to share unparallelled investment into communities and football at all levels across England and Wales.”
