Oxford United in the Community is hiring Team Leaders to help deliver its National Citizen Service (NCS) programmes this summer for teenagers looking to make a difference locally.

The charity is recruiting a Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader to be responsible for guiding and supporting participants on the two-week course through its icebreaker, activity and social impact delivery stages.

The successful candidates should be able to inspire and encourage teenagers to engage in all parts of the programme by building positive relationships. The roles require two weeks of work at a residential location and two 30-hour weeks supporting social action project delivery based at the Kings Centre, Oxford.

Aled Newton, NCS Programme Manager at Oxford United in the Community, said: “For two years, National Citizen Service programmes have helped teenagers in Oxfordshire to make a positively impact to their communities.

“The programmes encourage the use of life skills such as problem solving, teamwork and communication. Our delivery is made possible by our bright, bubbly and enthusiastic team of staff – and we’re on the lookout for a Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader to join us.

Funded by the Government, NCS programmes are designed for teenagers aged 16 or 17 to help them establish a clear idea of what they want from their future via independent challenges, team activities and workshops.

This year, Oxford United in the Community will operate two programmes between July 18-29 and August 8-19. Both programmes will start with a four-night stay at Taplow Lakeside to develop team cohesion via various outdoor activities including paddleboarding, axe throwing and archery.

The second week will see participants deliver a social action project which will positively impact their local communities and tackle important issues such as homelessness, climate change and loneliness.

Aled added: “Since we started our NCS delivery in 2020, the programmes have been a great success with some outstanding projects delivered and vital funds raised for charity.

“The programmes are fun, inclusive and provide participants with an opportunity to learn and develop key skills whilst having some much-needed fun. We look forward to hearing from applicants in the coming weeks.”

The jobs are seasonal roles lasting four weeks between Monday, July 18, and Friday, August 19.
